The first of six Lockheed P-3F Orion seasurveillance and ASW aircraft, worth more than $60 million, has been handed over to the Imperial Iranian Air Force and IIAF crews are now being trained by Lockheed and US Navy personnel at Moffett Field near San Francisco. The first aircraft was accepted by Lt Col Amil H. Ghoreishi {second left), a member of the Iranian purchasing mission, from Mr R. fi. Heppe (second right), Lockheed- California executive vice-president for government programmes. Iran is the sixth P-3 customer, the others being the US Navy, Australia, New Zealand, Norway and Spain. The type is competing for orders from Canada, Holland and Japan and a re-order from Australia, and Saudi Arabia is believed to want seven or eight. Production has exceeded 400- and is likely to continue into the 1980s

نخستین هواپیمای گشت دریایی و مخصوص نبرد زیر سطحی پی- 3اف اوریون از مجموع شش فروند سفارش داده شده به ارزش بیش از 60 میلیون دلار , به نیروی هوایی شاهنشاهی ایران تحویل داده شده و هم اکنون خدمه IIAF در مطقه Moffett نزدیک سانفرانسیسکو توسط پرسنل نیروی دریایی ایالات متحده و شرکت لاکهید اموزش یافته اند.نخستین هواپیما بوسیله یکی از اعضا تیم خرید ایران آقای Col Amil H. Ghoreish (نفر دوم از سمت چپ) از معاون اجرایی رئیس جمهور از شرکت لاکهید ایالت کالیفرنیا آقای R. fi. Heppe (نفر دوم از راست) برای برنامه های دولت پذیرفته شد.ایران در کنار نیروی دریایی ایالات متحده , استرالیا ,نیوزلند , نروژ و اسپانیا ششمین مشتری این هواپیما به شمار می رود .در حال حاضر نوعی رقاقبت میان کشورهای کانادا , هلند و ژاپن برای سفارش خرید و استرالیا برای سفارش مجدد این هواپیما جریان دارد و عربستان سعودی نیز خواهان خرید و به خدمت گرفتن هفت یا هشت فروند از این هواپما است.تولید این هواپیما از مرز 400 فروند تجاوز کرده و به احتمال زیاد روند تولید ان در دهه 80 میلادی نیز ادامه یابد.
